A festive forest theme for the Calle Larios light show this Christmas

Malaga city hall on Tuesday released plans for this year's Christmas lights on Calle Larios. The lights, all of which will be new, will be turned on on 29 November, while it has also been announced that there will once again be three daily musical light shows.

Teresa Porras, the city hall's councillor for Festivities, stated that the theme chosen this year was a forest, decorated with suns, angels and autumn leaves. Many of the decorations will be made of perspex, so that they can remain there for the entire festive season.

The decorations will be supported by 22 arches, and will be made up of 730,000 individual bulbs.

The installation of the lights will begin on Wednesday and will force the closure of some parts of the street.

As has been a feature over the last few years, musical shows will take place three times a day, at 6.30pm, 8pm and 9.30pm. The songs will include Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You and Hilary Duff's Jingle Bell Rock.

Aside from Calle Larios, 76 other city centre streets will feature decorations this festive season, including Calle Santa Lucía, Calle Nosquera and Calle Comedias, all for the first time.

The lights will be kept on for 40 days and the total cost will be 806,000 euros, 532,000 of which will be spent on the Calle Larios decorations.
